Telehealth FAQs

Telehealth is the use of communication technologies, such as computers and mobile devices, to access health care. Using real-time audio and videoconferencing, doctors and their patients can meet “face to face” without being physically located in the same place. Sometimes telehealth is used to connect one doctor’s office to another doctor’s office. In our clinic, we provide video appointments directly to patients. As a result, individuals can the care they need from the comfort of home.

The telehealth user experience is similar to video chats on other common platforms like Skype, Google Hangouts, FaceTime, or Zoom. The structure of a video-based appointment session is nearly identical to that of an in-person  appointment. But, rather than being in a doctor’s office, you can attend your appointment in a place that’s convenient and comfortable. As with any online service, technical imperfections do occur from time to time (e.g., video may lag or audio may cut out). This doesn’t happen often with fast internet connections, though.

If you’re feeling unsure about telehealth, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’ll happily walk you through the basics of a video appointment. We can also ask you some screening questions to help determine whether telehealth is an appropriate choice for your situation.

We recommend accessing your telehealth video appointments from a desktop computer, laptop, or tablet. Your device must have a working webcam, microphone, and speakers/headphones. You don’t need to download special software. Instead, you will join the video appointment via a link that opens in your internet browser. Test your equipment to make sure it is telehealth-ready using this Pre-Call Tool.

Yes, video sessions require high speed internet to run smoothly. We strongly recommend download and upload speeds of at least 10 megabits per second. Check your current connection with an internet speed test. Better speed and reliability is usually achieved with wired internet (i.e., directly connected via an Ethernet cable) compared to WiFi.

No. Patients interested in medications for ADHD or other cognitive/behavioral symptoms are encouraged to talk with their physician (e.g., psychiatrist, neurologist, primary care provider). If you don’t already have a physician you’ve been working with, we may be able to assist with referrals.

Our telehealth clinic currently offers services for patients ages 17 and older.
